Find my pathAbout this term
Repair negotiation is a back-and-forth process where the seller may offer to repair some items, provide credit for others, and refuse to address some items at all. The buyer must decide whether to accept the seller's response or terminate the contract. In competitive markets, sellers reject most repair requests; in buyer's markets, sellers may be more flexible. The key is understanding what repairs are necessary versus merely preferable.
Pro Tip
Don't get emotionally attached to having repairs completed by the seller. Often you'll be happier getting credit and choosing your contractor.
Example
Buyer requests $25,000 in repairs; seller offers to repair the roof ($12,000) and provide $5,000 credit for other items; buyer accepts this offer, resolving the negotiation.
