WDI inspections are more comprehensive than basic termite inspections, examining evidence of all wood-destroying insects. Inspectors look for mud tubes, tunnels, frass (insect droppings), dead insects, and structural damage. Many states require WDI reports for mortgage lending. The report documents infestation status, damage assessment, and treatment recommendations. Active infestation requires treatment before closing.
Pro Tip
Get a WDI inspection during home purchase. Active infestation must be treated before closing.
Example
A WDI inspection of a property found evidence of old termite activity and current carpenter ant infestation. Treatment included eliminating moisture sources attracting carpenter ants and applying barriers to prevent future entry.
