About this term

A seller's agent (also called a listing agent) is responsible for marketing the property, showing it to prospective buyers, and negotiating on behalf of the seller. The seller's agent receives compensation from the seller (listing commission) and has a fiduciary duty to protect the seller's interests and confidential information. The seller's agent cannot provide advice to the buyer and may not have the buyer's interests in mind.

Pro Tip

Remember the seller's agent represents the seller, not you. Always have your own representation.

Example

The seller's agent listed the property and negotiated multiple offers.
